Gratitude for GiveBIG and all our supporters

Our heartfelt THANKS goes out to all our supporters on the Biggest Giving Day of the year!  Yesterday, The Seattle Foundation raised over 7 Million dollars for Seattle non-profits!  That’s 2 million more than last year!  What astounding numbers!!!  The spirit of giving is strong in our city and we are so thankful to be a part of this community.  Exact totals are still being tallied for ajusticenetwork/Splinter as The Seattle Foundation S-T-R-E-T-C-H-E-S the dollars you donated, so we’ll be sure to keep you abreast of the successes we share!

If you didn’t have a chance to participate in the campaign yesterday, but still have the itch to give, you can still donate to ajusticenetwork and Splinter by clicking HERE

In keeping with the spirit of service and community that ajusticenetwork and Splinter uphold, during yesterday’s campaign Splinter was proud to attend a Mentor Appreciation Dinner with the Big Picture High School for our Internship student, Kimani.  What a gift for us to see the far-reaching effects of this school’s programming on the lives of our youth.  It truly takes a community to raise a child, and this school is a shining example of the support we as a community, as mentors, and teachers, have to offer.

GiveBIG or give small for BIG Change! May 2nd one-day only!

Dearest Friends and Supporters,

On May 2, 2012, this coming Wednesday, ajusticenetwork and Splinter Dance Company are participating once again in The Seattle Foundation’s GiveBIG Campaign!

“The Seattle Foundation’s GiveBIG is a one-day, online charitable giving event to inspire people to give generously to nonprofit organizations who make our region a healthier and more vital place to live.”

For us, Give Big is not about the amount of each donation, but about the universal support of our mission. We have inspired many hearts throughout the years, and hope to encourage everyone to give, big or small, since even the smallest donation can create BIG change.

Splinter has been continuing its work in the community this past year in so many ways; from mentoring high school youth, to offering exciting local performances, as well as teaching diverse dance classes out of our studio in Pioneer Square.

Splinter has been asked to perform our Diversity Dance Repertoire at the Juan de Fuca Festival in Port Angeles later this May. We’re also booked to perform for many local outdoor summer festivals (U-District, Beacon Hill neighborhood, and Mt. Vernon to name a few), and are working hard to put together a Colorado tour this summer!

Your donation will help with our travel costs, costume needs, as well as our ongoing rehearsal space and activities here in Seattle.

With enough support, we will set aside 30% percent of the donations to help plan and execute a reunion for the countless dancers from across the globe, host families, and volunteers associated with our predecessor, Diversity Dance Workshop (started in 1992).

HOW IT WORKS

Each donation made through The Seattle Foundation’s website to any of the 1,300 profiled nonprofit organizations between midnight and midnight (Pacific Time) on May 2, 2012 will receive a pro-rated portion of the matching funds (or “stretch”) pool. The amount of the “stretch” depends on the size of the stretch pool and how much is raised in total donations on GiveBIG day. For example, if a nonprofit organization receives 3 percent of the total donations during GiveBIG, then it will receive 3 percent of the stretch pool.

WIN A GOLDEN TICKET

Throughout GiveBIG, donors will be chosen at random to have an additional $1,000 given to the charity that received their donation. The selected donor will also be eligible to win a Starbucks gift card worth $100!

We are excited by all of the opportunities we’ve had thus far with Splinter Dance Company, and look forward with gratitude to the work ahead of us. We are thankful for your generous support which allows us to present our work to communities worldwide!

With creativity and gratitude,
Justice, Robin and all the Splinter dancers
